Prayer: Children of Abram

Here’s a prayer of petition and intercession from John van de Laar at Sacredise.com.

Prayer
(inspired by events in Genesis 12-18)

Long before the change of name,
before the first signs of new life
showed the beginnings of promises fulfilled,
You asked Abram to make his home among foreigners,
and share the blessing that was to come.

And now, O God, you ask the same faith of us:
The faith to count ourselves among the least,
to find our place alongside the poor and broken;
The faith to trust in your mercy and your promises,
and to share what we have received;
The faith to wait expectantly for your reign of justice and equity,
together with those who most need its gifts.

Teach us to be children of Abram, sharers of the blessings we enjoy:
The blessing of plenty shared with those who have need,
The blessing of healing shared with those who are sick and wounded,
The blessing of joy shared with those who celebrate
and of tears shared with those who grieve,
The blessing of friendship shared with those who are excluded,
and of solidarity with those who fight injustice,
The blessing of peace shared with those in conflict,
and of confrontation shared with those who bring harm;
And in some small way, may our faith and our sharing,
help to bring your promises into being
in our world.

Amen.

Prayer for Healing: On Eagles' Wings

Here’s a closing prayer or a prayer for healing from Terri.  It was posted on the RevGalBlogPals website.

Prayer for Healing

God of life
God of hope
God of all

Lift us
on your love
like eagle's wings

Sustain us
Guide us
Heal us

Then send us
forth into
the world

That we
may love
as you love.
Amen.

Prayer: Sent Out

Here’s a prayer of commitment and petition inspired by Matthew 9:35-10:23, the Gospel reading for the second Sunday after Pentecost. It was written by Rev. Pam Ekey, Pastor at Alton, St. Paul and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Churches in Thayer, Missouri.

Prayer
(inspired by Matthew 9:35-10:23)

As Jesus sent the disciples out into the communities,
so we are sent to proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven has drawn near.
We are eager to share your love, without expecting a reward.
We realize will not always be made welcome.
When that happens,
let us move on
because there are many more places that need to receive your grace.
May your Spirit speak through us in truth.
Lord Jesus, equip us for the journey, we pray. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith: Matthew

Here’s a simple affirmation of faith inspired by Matthew 25:16-20 and Matthew 9:35-38. It was written by Tim Tate, Lead Pastor at Warrenton United Methodist Church.

(inspired by Matthew 25:16-20, Matthew 9:35-38)

I believe in a God
who created all things
and seeks for all to be in communion as God’s people.

I believe in Jesus Christ
who showed us how to share love,
and who commissioned us to go out into the highways and byways
inviting all to be a part of God’s work in the world.

I believe in the Holy Spirit
who leads and guides us into the world,
then touches the lives of those around us
in ways that make them receptive to love.

I believe in the harvest
and the call for laborers to receive and respond,
sharing light and life with the world.  Amen.
