Here’s a scriptural litany I put together for Earth Day (April 22). It is part of a larger worship service called
New Heaven, New Earth, put out by the
Canadian Foodgrains Bank. See below for
the link.
Scriptural Litany
for Earth Day
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God
and God created everything through him.
(John 1:1-3a)
Christ is the visible
expression of the invisible God.
He existed before
creation began,
for it was through
him that everything was made,
whether spiritual or
material,
seen or unseen. (Colossians 1:15-16a)
Nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone. (John 1:3b-4)
Every detail was
crafted through his design,
by his own hands and
for his purposes.
He existed before
anything else began,
and he holds all
creation together. (Colossians 1:16b-17)
O Lord, what a variety of things you have made!
In your wisdom you have made them all.
The earth is full of your creatures.
Every one of them is dependent on you
to give them what they need to survive.
When you send out your breath, life is created,
and the face of the earth is made beautiful
and is renewed. (Psalm 104:24, 27,
30)
May your glory endure
forever, O God,
and may you find joy
in the splendor of
your own creation. (Psalm 104:31)
