Here’s a prayer of intercession
inspired by the suggested scripture readings for Proper 28 B (the 25th
Sunday after Pentecost. It was written by Richard Bansemer, and posted on the
Lutheran Forum.
Prayer of Intercession: Proper 28 B
Father God, at the end of time as we
know it, you will be there. Help us, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to
have no fear of that day or of that hour, for your Son, Jesus, our Savior, will
be there for us.
Loving
God, you hear our prayers: You live among us.
Lord God Almighty, even as you
listened to Hannah as she poured out her soul to you in despair, hear our
prayers, and use us as you used her in your holy work.
Loving
God, you hear our prayers: You live among us.
Holy Spirit, keep us from making
gods out of our needs and desires, and teach us to take refuge in your strength
and counsel.
Loving
God, you hear our prayers: You live among us.
Lord Jesus Christ, high priest, by
your Holy Spirit you remember our sins no more. May we worship with a clean
heart full of faith, and seek to do good works for and with one another, for
the day of your return approaches.
Loving God, you hear our prayers: You live among
us.
Lord Jesus Christ, you call all that
we fear about the end of time as mere “birth pangs.” Help us dread the end as
little as we worried about our first birth. You will be present.
Loving
God, you hear our prayers: You live among us.
Come, Lord Jesus, into the lives of
those whose need healing _____.
Loving
God, you hear our prayers: You live among us.
The
love of God has won. The new life has begun. Amen.
