Call to Worship for Easter 3 A

Here are some scriptural calls to worship for May 8, 2011 (the third Sunday of Easter). They are based on Psalm 116 and I Peter 1, two of the lectionary texts for that day.  Feel free to adapt them to suit your local congregation.

Easter 3: Call to Worship I
(based on I Peter 1)

We gather together to worship God,
who, through the blood of Jesus Christ,
has freed us from the emptiness and futility of our former lives!
We have been reborn—we are now children of the living God!
Come, let’s worship the God who has set us free!

Easter 3: Call to Worship II
(based on Psalm 116)

Come, people of God!
Let us offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and lift up his name in the presence of his people.
For God is gracious and merciful,
full of compassion and love.
While we were still helpless, he came to save us.
Let’s worship God together!

Easter 3: Call to Worship  III
(based on Psalm 116)

People of God,
how do we respond to God
for all the blessings he has poured out on us?
What can we give him in return?

We will offer God a sacrifice of thanksgiving
in the presence of his people.

Come, let us worship God together!

Easter 3: Call to Worship IV
(based on Psalm 116, Common English Bible)

What can we give back to God
for all the good things He has done for us?

We will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on his name!
We will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving!
We will keep the promises we’ve made to God
in the presence of all his people!

Come, let us worship!
