Scripture Litany: Stewardship

Here’s a scripture litany on the subject of stewardship.  It references Mark 12:41-44/Luke 21 and Acts 4.  It was written by Katherine Hawker and posted on Liturgy Outside.

Scripture Litany
(incorporating Mark 12, Luke 21 and Acts 4)

One:     Jesus looked up
            and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury;
Two:     Now the whole group of those who believed
            were of one heart and soul,
            and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions,
            but everything they owned was held in common.
All:      Gather us in, Holy One,
            show us the way home.

One:     And Jesus saw a poor widow put in two copper coins.
Two:     There was not a needy person among them,
]           for as many as owned lands or houses sold them
            and brought the proceeds of what was sold.
All:      Gather us in, Compassionate Christ,
            help us to see safety and hear welcome.

One:     Jesus said, "Truly I tell you,
            this poor widow has put in more than all of them;
            for they all contributed out of their abundance,
            but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had."
Two:     They laid it at the apostles' feet,
            and it was distributed to each as any had need.
All:      Gather us in, Sustaining Spirit,
            enable us to open our arms
            and extend the circle.
