Here’s a prayer of intercession based on the scripture texts for Epiphany 6B (February 12, 2012). It was written by Paul Sauer.
Prayers of the People: Epiphany 6B
(based on 2 Kings 5: 1-14; Mark 1: 40-45; 1 Corinthians 9: 24-27)
Heavenly Father,
even as you healed Naaman both of his leprosy and his pride,
heal us of all that separates us from true health and from you.
Let us walk: In the light of the Lord.
Lord God,
no matter our feelings, our station in life,
our wealth, health or lack thereof,
we are only as secure as your nearness.
We praise you for wanting to be our only God.
Let us walk: In the light of the Lord.
Holy Spirit, help us care for souls beyond our own.
Keep evangelism from dying in our churches,
for you yearn to grant eternal life to all.
Let us walk: In the light of the Lord.
Lord Jesus Christ,
look with mercy upon all of us in our needs,
especially those needs of which we are most reluctant to acknowledge.
Heal us from pride, selfishness,
lethargy for the gospel, bad temperament,
and the many unnamed other sins that inhabit our being.
Let us walk: In the light of the Lord.
Holy Spirit,
as we live our lives on earth,
prepare us for the life that is to come.
Increase our faith,
give us an ear to hear God's response to our prayers,
and fill us with the joy of receiving yet another day full of grace.
Let us walk: In the light of the Lord.
Those whom we name before you are already known by you,
but we lift them up aloud,
because you promise to hear us when we pray _____.
Let us walk: In the light of the Lord.
Light of the world, shine upon us. Amen.
