Here’s an opening litany for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, based on John 1:1-5, 9, 14. It comes from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship website.
Christmas Litany
(based on John 1: 1-5, 9, 14)
1: In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2: He was in the beginning with God.
All things came into being through him.
1: In him was life, and the life was the light of all people.
2: The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness did not overcome it.
1: The true light, which enlightens everyone,
was coming into the world.
All: And the Word became flesh and lived among us,
and we have seen his glory,
the glory as of a father's only son,
full of grace and truth.
— from John 1:1-5, 9, 14 NRSV. The Song of Mary—Luke 1, posted on the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship website.
