Words of Assurance & Prayer: Psalm 86

Psalm 86:11-17 is the alternate psalm for the fifth Sunday after Pentecost (July 17, 2011).  If you are including this passage in your worship, here are some possible words of assurance (following confession) and a prayer of response which might be helpful.

Words of Assurance & Prayer
(based on Psalm 86:11-15)

Brothers and sisters,
Our God is a God of compassion and mercy,
slow to get angry,
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
So be at peace: your sins are forgiven.

We praise You, God,
and glorify Your name.
For great is Your love toward us.
You have rescued us from the path that leads to death.

Teach us Your ways,
so that we may live according to Your truth.
Give us pure hearts,
so that our lives will bring honor to You.
Amen.
