Contemporary Hymns about Scripture

If you’re looking for suggestions for contemporary hymns for July 10, 2011 (the fourth Sunday after Pentecost), here are a few.

I’ve chosen to focus my suggestions on the theme of God’s Word, since it runs through so many of the lectionary passages for this Sunday:  we see it in Psalm 119:105-112 (Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet), Matthew 13:1-9 (the parable of the farmer scattering seed), and Isaiah 55:10-13 (an alternate text for this Sunday).

So here are some contemporary hymns which focus on the theme of Scripture. I’ve provided whatever links I could.  Texts (and often music) for the songs marked with an asterisk (*) can be found on Hope Publishing’s Online Hymnody website.  They are free to use if you have a CCLI, Licensing or OneLicense copyright license.
