Here is a litany based on Matthew 1 6 : 1 3 -2 0, one of the suggested readings for August 21, 2011 (the tenth Sunday after Pentecost). The congregational responses are taken from John 6 :5 1 , 8:1 2 ; 1 0 :1 1 , 1 1 :2 5 ; and 1 4 :6.
Who Do You Say I Am?
When Jesus came to Caesarea Philippi,
he asked his disciples,
“Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
They replied:
“Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah,
and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”
Then he asked them,
“But you—who do you say I am?”
Lord, You are the Bread of Life,
which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
You are the Good Shepherd,
who lays down His own life for the sheep in His care.
You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life,
the path by which we come to know God the Father.
You are the Light of the World,
illuminating the way for all who walk in darkness.
You are the Resurrection and the Life,
the source of eternal life for all who believe.
You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God,
and our Redeemer and Lord.
