Call to Worship for Holy Humor Sunday

Here are some scriptural calls to worship suitable for use on Holy Humor/Laughter Sunday (the first Sunday after Easter), and other days, too! Feel free to revise and adapt them to suit your local needs.

Call to Worship I
(based on 1 Chronicles 16)

Let the heavens be glad, let the earth rejoice!
Say to all the nations, “The Lord reigns!”

Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!
Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy!

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.

Praise the Lord, the God of Israel,
who lives from everlasting to everlasting!

Call to Worship II
(based on Psalm 66)

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth!
Sing of God’s glorious name,
glorify him with your praise!

Everything on earth will worship you;
they will sing your praises,
shouting your name in glorious songs.

Come and see what our God has done,
what awesome miracles he has done for us!

Let the whole world bless our God and sing his praise.
Our lives are in his hands,
and he keeps our feet from stumbling.

Call to Worship III
(based on Psalm 30)

People of God, sing praise!
Give thanks to his holy name!

You have turned our mourning into joyful dancing.
You have taken away our funeral clothes,
and clothed us with joy instead,
so that we might sing praises to you
and not be silent!
O Lord, our God, we will give you thanks forever!

Call to Worship IV
(based on Psalm 68)

People of God, rejoice!
Celebrate before the Lord with gladness and great joy!
Sing praise to God, play music to his name,
lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds!
For he is the Lord—
rejoice in his presence!

Call to Worship V
(based on Psalm 98)

Sing a new song to the Lord,
for he has done wonderful things!
His right hand has won a mighty victory;
his holy arm has shown his saving power!

Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth!
Be happy!
Rejoice out loud!
Sing your praises!

For he has made known his saving power,
and every corner of the earth has seen our God’s salvation!
